Greenwich Town Fishing Community
September 11th 2009 about 300 tons of sulphuric acid from the nearby Industrial Chemical Company Jamaica Limited storage tank, leaked into the fishing village killing thousands of fish and threatened the livelihood of all the fishermen in the area. The fisherman were not able to fish for a month while the spill was being cleaned up, over 100 people had to be evacuated from the area. The area also suffered since after the spill people were afraid to buy fish from the area fearing contamination. To bring people back to the area and show its safe a concert has been organized titled Lets Go And Have Some Fun On The Beach, the event was on March 28th. We meet fisherman Alvin with the visionary of the concert, Earl Chinna Smith, preparation for concert with Muta Baruka and Groundfire.
